The One Word Journal Method

Listen to this post on my podcast: Journal with Jenny

This week’s journal writing prompt sounds simple, but it will be powerful for you to complete.

You will write about one word, and you don’t have to be a mother to journal about this. Can you guess what the word is?

You can write about what comes up around your own mother, mother figures throughout your life, trying to be a mother, being afraid to be a mother, pregnancy, miscarriage, and more.

This is worthwhile journaling for both men and women.

JOURNAL PROMPT

Pick up your journal or some paper. Take a couple deep breaths and get into a reflective state. Sometimes I light a candle or play some music quietly.

When you feel ready, think of the word “Mother”. Write about whatever comes to your mind & heart and put it down on paper for 10-30 minutes.

So much came up for me as I wrote. The joy, the pain, the loss, the reward… all of it. Stories, meanings, and memories. It was incredible the amount of depth that can come from one word as you journal. You can do this with other words as well.

If you would like to share in the comments, let me know how this landed for you and what came up as you wrote.
